Despite looking like it might hail from the kookily-mis-spelled retail gene pool of 'Schuh', 'Phisch Food' and the like, Schop actually has good reason for its quirkiness. It derives from ye olde Scots, meaning 'shop' or 'workshop', and this ancient definition is reflected in its otherwise distinctly modern remit. Although it occupies a comparitively tiny area (the front room of an Old Town building) Schop is both exhibition space and studio, welcoming a public audience into a forum where artists frequently reinvent ideas about a city steeped in tradition.
