The Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art — formerly the Chinese Arts Centre — is located at the edge of Manchester's Northern Quarter, towards Shudehill. The only not-for-profit centre of its kind in the UK, its aim is to promote, showcase and support contemporary Chinese artists through its in house exhibitions, community outreach work and educational creative workshops. The centre offers free tours of the gallery and curator talks, and there are a number of classes on offer every month, including Mandarin Corner, an insight into the Mandarin language and Chinese culture. As well as working with local schools and colleges, the centre has also partnered with the University of Salford to work towards strengthening relationships with designers and artists in China, in order to bring more exhibition opportunities to the UK. Their shop offers a variety of artwork inspired gifts, and their Tea House is worth a visit too. [Charlotte Davies]
