One can’t be sure if it’s the re-appropriated bus seating, the terrific line in photos of old-time Glasgow, or the reasonably priced, immeasurably satisfying brunch options, but there’s something about Trans-Europe Café that makes it feel right at home in Trongate’s gallery quarter. Since opening in 2005, the eatery has rightfully earned a reputation for its delicious, uncomplicated sandwiches and highly customisable breakfasts.

The café also offers a range of classic, hearty bistro-style dishes on Friday and Saturday evenings, with four different menus on rotation throughout the month. Don’t expect too many surprises – dishes include coq au vin, fishcakes, mushroom risotto, and bread and butter pudding, with no single dish setting you back more than a tenner. In keeping with the European theme, there’s also a good range of bottled beers on offer. Job done.
