Old Man Pubs are having a bit of a moment, aren't they? Punters are turning their backs on the bare-walled, pendant-bulbed establishments perched all over the central belt, and pubs where there's real ale (and real talk from the beardy barfolk) are reigning supreme. Some might be offput by the scratchy leather or the nostalgic red'n'gold exterior - but oh, what a mistake-a to make-a.

See, The Admiral is a trick of the eye - it looks like an Old Man Pub, but doesn't have sticky carpets or the bleak flashing of fruit machines. Enter, the Fauxld-Man-Pub.

Regularly hosting nights in their downstairs gig venue, you can see a wide range of bands and local DJs throughout the week. And we're not talking resident DJ Paul on the M-I-C, we're on about rockabilly nights, Smiths and Morrissey evenings and a healthy dose of Elvis.

There's also a weekely pub quiz - because, c'mon, what Fauxld-Man-Pub is complete without photocopied picture-rounds and teams of students beaming with pride at their team name, Quizzy Rascal? You can also watch all kinds of sporty stuff at their regular live sport screenings, or even just chill out with a pint of something tasty.

Their food is a modern sort of pub grub, which hits the spot rather nicely indeed. Top marks, Admiral.
