Dakota Forth Bridge

While Dakota - a seemingly opaque black tower shooting up from a dining complex just off the Forth Road Bridge - might appear out of place, this hotel-restaurant has shovelled up nearly all the awards available to it since opening its doors.

It's definitely worth investigating the hotel's overnight packages and spa breaks but it's Dakota's sumptuous Bar and Grill which has proved itself worthy of the most raving; with a sturdy reliance on local suppliers, fish dishes are served the day they are caught - and the freshness shines through.

Along with efficiently excellent customer service and a high-concept, yet unfussy interior, Dakota is definitely worth a visit, if only for the Loch Fyne oysters. Mmm.
