'Posh fish and chips' – it's just a really easy sell, isn't it? Down on the waterfront in Edinburgh's Newhaven, The Fishmarket is a collaboration between old school fishmongers Welch and the team behind fancy-pants Old Town seafood restaurant Ondine. The result is a seaside spot that's equally comfortable slinging oysters and scallops as it is knocking together a cracking fish supper. We like that and will take one of each, thanks.

The upmarket chippy is set in the atmospheric Newhaven fish hall, an echoey building steeped in martime history. It's no wonder then that the menu focuses solely on locally-caught seafood, and that the specials can change regularly depending on the catch of the day. The menu may be select, but it's a classic example of quality over quantity, and with some ice-cool champers behind the bar to wash your supper down with, The Fishmarket are going all out to stand out from the crowd.

They may be new to Edinburgh's culinary scene, having only opened doors in 2018, but we have a feeling this is one place which ain't gonna slip through the net. See what we did there?
