Since earning his stripes at the popular Peat Inn on the Fife coast, Scott Smith has bagged himself a reputation as one of Scotland’s most promising young chefs; now he and wife Laura have opened their own restaurant in the heart of Leith.  Despite the fierce competition that comes from setting up shop in one of Edinburgh’s most up-and-coming neighbourhoods, Norn has taken critics by storm and is fast becoming one of the city’s most talked about places to eat.

At the heart of this business is the produce - high quality Scottish food, lovingly sourced and prepared. Scott and his wife are committed to using local produce from across the country, and only use suppliers who believe in promoting sustainable and ethical distribution.  Their wine list too is carefully selected from suppliers who process wine naturally, so you can rest assured that what you’re drinking is the real deal. Happy tummies and happy minds? Aye to that!

If you visit Norn, you’re not just ‘going for a meal’, you’re going for an experience.  The menus are set by the chef (diners can choose between four courses or seven)  and can vary largely depending on season and, of course, the chef’s mood. This means that no two nights will ever be the same, and yet what doesn’t vary is the quality or the creativity of the dishes served.  From traditional beremeal to desserts which feature ground ivy and caramelised popcorn, these guys know how to nail good food, and the complexity of the dishes is nicely counter-balanced by the neutral, Scandi decor.

If you’re looking for a cheap night out, look away; for the very best in contemporary Scottish cuisine, look no further than Norn.
