El Quijote is a teeny, tiny tapas restaurant on Brougham Street in Tollcross. It specialises in real Spanish food, made by real Spanish chefs. You won’t get ordinary old tortilla here, instead the owners of El Quijote have brought what they think is authentic Spanish fare to the UK, which includes pork cheek stew, deep fried squid rings, mushroom croquettes, and flour dusted white bait… delicious! That’s not to say traditional fare isn’t on offer; El Quijote’s menu is full of various well-established Spanish dishes, as well as new things to try (i.e., ne'er fear, they have patatas bravas!). The restaurant has a real and honest passion for cooking with Spanish flavours, owned by a group of pals who moved to Edinburgh from Spain in 2003 and decided to open their own restaurant to cook here, exactly how they do in Spain. From Monday to Thursday, El Quijote is just open for dinner, but from Friday to Sunday it’s also open for lunch, too. Oh, and It’s a small place, so best book a table in advance to avoid disappointment.
