When the owner of The Black Hoof on Edinburgh's Dalry Road set up shop, he had one clear mission in mind: to introduce Scotland's capital to some of the finest Spanish Iberico ham (Jamon Iberico) known to man.
On first glance, the shop may appear small and unassuming, but inside it's packed to the rafters with some seriously lovingly-sourced produce. The team have built connections from some of the finest jamon suppliers in the land, sourcing their meats from regions as far afield as Extremadura, Guijuelo, Jabugo and Los Pedroches.
As well as the nicely stocked deli shop, The Black Hoof also has a small tapas restaurant. The scarcity of tables gives the place a homely feel and ensures that the staff are there to give you their undivided attention, as they dish up some of the finest examples of Spanish gastronomy north of the Bay of Biscay. Expect to find all the stalwarts of tapas dining, from crispy calamari and oozing croquettes to chorizo with lentils, cheese platters and traditional tortillas.
Sit in, takeaway or simply marvel at the impressive cuts of meat on display; whatever your stomach desires, The Black Hoof'll have you covered.
