What's better than an ordinary old farm? A farm inside a city, that's what! Gorgie City farm is a working smallholding, home to sheep, ducks, pigs, chickens and a cow called Fudge. It's a community run project designed to help educate inner city children and adults about food production and farm life. It also promotes social inclusion, with a whole host of opportunities to volunteer your time on offer. The animals live their lives on the farm and can be visited 363 days a year by the public - and for free, too! The project is funded largely by money generated in the farm cafe - meaning you've now got the most perfect excuse to grab a cake and a coffee in this inner city rural haven.
The farm also runs birthday parties, offers a pet boarding service and has a meeting room which can be hired by the hour. What's more, during the fringe festival in August, the farm is often used to host free comedy shows with Laughing Horse.
