For those not down with brewing lingo, a demijohn is a glass bottle used to store liquids, mostly of a boozy persuasion. And so, lining the shelves of Edinburgh's only liquid deli – and reputedly the world's first – you pick your own bottle (ranging from rustic to heart-shaped) and fill it with locally-sourced treats such as strawberry vinegar, single malt whisky and chilli rapeseed oil (preferably not together, but to each their own – that's half the charm). You are encouraged to taste the products before you buy and they'll happily personalize your bottle with a hand-written message or label. Additionally, glass bottles can be brought back and re-filled, saving both the environment and your pocket. A foodie delight.
