Civerinos Slice

When Civerinos first opened doors in 2015, they took Hunter Square, and just about the entirety of Edinburgh's carb-lovin' population, by storm. The family-run business quickly established itself as one of the capital's best-loved pizza joints with their trademark sourdough creations, colourful diner and modern take on traditional recipes. Over the last two years, word has spread, and they've now gone and kindly set up a second dwelling just down the road.

Civerinos Slice may be the littler of the siblings, but it's already creating a fair wee buzz around Forrest Road, a location which serves as a natural thoroughfare for visiting tourists, nearby students and those making their way home from a boozy night out. Unlike the flagship diner though, here the emphasis is mostly on serving pizzas (whole or by the slice, whichever tickles your fancy) and there's a colourfully-Christened collection to choose from, ranging from Sleeps with the Fishes to Silence of the Lambs.

Whichever one you go for, the 72 hour slow proven dough, san marzano sauce and lashings of freshly grated mozzarella are guaranteed to hit the spot. If that's not enough stodge to satisfy the hunger pangs though, you might want to follow it up with a Nutella Calzone or bowl of Zeppole Hot Doughnuts, served with a sprinkling of cinnamon sugar. Yes, these things exist; no, you should not think of the waistline.
