In a world of "concept" bars where the concept is less easily grasped than a slippery thing, Slighhouse finally does this misunderstood bar-genre justice.

Fair enough, you might need to do a smidgen of background reading if you weren't already aware of the fact that "Slighouses" was the name of the family farm inhabited by James Hutton, father of modern geology and scientist whose work lead to the theory of Uniformitarianism as we know it. And yes, OK, you may well need to skim over a Wikipedia article to work out why it's relevant that the walls of the bar display clever design features which mimick sedimentary rock; or why Slighhouse's decision to serve up season menus is not just an attractive idea but a thematic one.

Regardless, when you're sharing a pitcher of Slighhouse Punch (featuring 5-year-old rum, lemon sherbet and apricot liquer) on a first date, smugly revelling in the opportunity to flaunt your newly acquired rock-smarts, you're gonna thank us for this heads-up. Seriously.
