The Wonder Inn

Renovated from a derelict warehouse in Shudehill, The Wonder Inn is a creative wellness centre dedicated to the community and their interests. It's instantly recognisable — the light blue exterior looks almost futuristic amongst the old buildings surrounding it. Set up by Manchester singer-songwriter Kirsty Almeida, the centre is an ongoing development, and focusses on having seven key areas within the building. The centre’s health promoting cafe supports small catering businesses by welcoming them into the cafe for short periods, and in the evenings the cafe also hosts cookery classes, promoting the prevention of food waste. The children’s area hosts storytelling sessions as well as creative workshops for the whole family. A number of gallery spaces are dedicated to hosting interactive art installations and work by local upcoming artists, and there’s also an arts and crafts workshop space available for all ages. Event spaces are also used for live music, discussions and film screenings, and the yoga and meditation room is available for hire as well as holding regular classes. [Charlotte Davies]
