Teacup Kitchen, situated in the city’s Northern Quarter, boasts a place in the Good Food Guide in both 2013 and 2014. Whilst it may seem a little out of place alongside the fine-dining establishments also featured in the guide, it’s not without good reason that this upmarket tea room gets a mention. Once known for being owned by Mr Scruff, the fame of the delectable layer cakes and posh brekkies ensure the Mancunian DJ’s connection is but a distant memory. The cafe’s popularity often means it’s hard to bag a seat, but if you’re a tea aficionado it’s certainly worth lurking menacingly in an attempt to shove others out: their standard tea menu boasts over 20 types alone, not to mention the ‘Tea Explorer’ list for the really adventurous. You might want to visit with a wealthy relative, however, as most brews are upwards of £4. [Anna Tully]
