When you come across a newly opened boutique where you can snap up a Marc Jacob’s dress for £32, shopper’s logic dictates you keep it a well guarded secret and smile innocently whenever anyone comments on how chic you are suddenly looking. Not post it online for everyone to see. Not us though. The Skinny cares.

The motto of ThriftChic is 'clothes by the community, for the community'. Inspired by similar shops in her home town of San Fransisco, owner Shilla Mehr will buy your nicer cast aways for 35 % of what she thinks she can sell it for, or give you a voucher for 40 % off in store. The shop is divided into ‘gently used’ designer clothing, ‘gently used’ high street clothing and a small selection of clothing sourced from sample sales on her frequent trips to the US. It also stocks lovely, of course brand new, lingerie especially tailored towards smaller chested women (A - D, all is relative..). Hanky Panky, Betsey Johnson, Cosabella and Honeydew Intimates are all labels hard to come by in Scotland. And they are as delicate and candy flossed in colour as they sound. Add a few shoes, hats and general accessories and what you have is a little gem of a boutique that will appeal to Edinburgh fashionistas and eco-warriers alike.
