What started out as a monthly arts event in the basement of The Yellow Bench has now become a permanent fixture in Leith with the opening of Sketchy Beats Cafe.
Giving new lease of life to what was once the State cinema, Sketchy Beats is as much a community space as it is a cafe, offering performers and artists the chance to hang out together and sketch - literally - to a beat.
With several weekly events to choose from and art materials readily available, customers are given the opportunity to hone their life drawing skills while musicians, DJs and improvisational dancers perform, in an informal setting which feels much more like a pal's living room than your regular gig venue.
If the laidback ambience doesn't draw you in, the menu certainly will. Owner Cosima Canneti's Sicilian heritage shines through in her delicious offerings, which range from traditional antipasti, soups and salads to locally sourced cakes and breads; couple these with a fine, artisan coffee and you're on to a winner!
Opening hours can vary depending on the events offered, so for the most up-to-date information, it's best to give the cafe a follow on Facebook or simply pop in and say hi.
