Larah Bross hails from Montreal, and it's safe to say that she has a love of bagels. So much so that she's determined to share her city's much-perfected halo-shaped delicacy with the fine folks of Edinburgh through the creation of her new store, Bross Bagels.
Teaming up with local company Breadshare, Bross has come up with a recipe for the ultimate feel-good bagel, for not only does it taste good but it's also crafted with locally-sourced ingredients from locally-sourced suppliers.
In her flagship cafe, primely positioned on Portobello's High Street, you can buy bagels buy the dozen or have them filled to the brim with New York deli-inspired treats. There's the Big Apple, oozing with pastrami, Monterey Jack cheese, dill pickle and dijonaise. There's also the Montreal, with cream cheese, pickled red onion and capers. Or, if you fancy keeping it local, there's even the Porty, which comes with hot smoked salmon, cracked black pepper and posh pickles. Who doesn't love a posh pickle?
Vegans, vegetarians and those with dietary requirements need not panic because the boss at Bross will have you looked after faster than you can say smashed avocado, which, by the way, sounds barry to us.
Bross Bagels may be the new kids on the block but they're already proving a hit with the locals, earning themselves a spot in the Best Newcomer category in our 2018 Food and Drink Survey, along with the likes of Harmonium, In Bloom and Trenchtown.
