Edinburgh’s centrally located Whistlebinkies is a small music venue and late night bar, open until 3am and therefore a viable alternative for any nocturnal drinkers wishing to avoid the clubs. Anyone lucky enough to embark on long drunken nights out in Edinburgh will have ended up in Whistlebinkies eventually. Located just off the Royal Mile, it catches the traffic of those returning from George Street, those clambering up from the Cowgate and bemused tourists trying to keep up with the locals. Chilled enough to accept all with open arms and with enough cheap drink to fuel a ceilidh, the place is an institution of the city.
There's usually cheap or free entry between Monday and Thursday, and before midnight on party nights. With live music every night, ranging from acoustic to punk to tribute acts, the cavernous ‘Binkies is often crammed with loyal gig goers and intoxicated youngsters having a grand old time. What's not to like?
