Situated just a short hop from Leith Walk, ACE – the Autonomous Centre of Edinburgh – is an independent and self-governing organisation which works to promote equality and cooperation amongst the people of Edinburgh. As well as providing free weekly drop-ins and one-to-one sessions on troubling topics such as financial insecurity and housing problems, ACE also welcomes any individuals with ideas on how to make a positive difference in the city, but who might not have the funds or know-how to set up a project by themselves. ACE plays host to a variety of groups and associations, including the Leith Wholefood Co-op Shop, the Scottish Radical Library and Edinburgh Coalition Against Poverty, as well as hosting reular events such as a vegan potluck and regular film screenings concerning social issues. The venue also offers free Internet access for anyone who needs to get online but might not otherwise have the means.
