September is one of those funny months. After the usually-busy August it properly marks the start of autumn, welcoming cosy jumpers and duvet days on the couch. But more importantly, September has always been the month to offer us all some much-needed downtime, the chance to reset after one too many summer nights dancing in muddy fields and waking up in sweaty tents.

Sadly none of us have had the pleasure of such festival frivolities this year, but we have just the thing to help mourn the loss. It's a compilation of bands who were lined up to play The Skinny’s stage at this year’s Kelburn Garden Party, which, like many other festivals, has been postponed until the summer of 2021 (all things going well).

In January we announced the first wave of actsFree Love, Squiggles, Edwin Organ, Moonsoup, Swim School and Slime City – set to grace our two-day takeover, and by the time the country went into lockdown in March we’d already booked a tonne of other exciting Scottish bands to play. Bands which, until now, we’ve frustratingly not been able to tell you about.

Joining the above mentioned acts were Dundee’s Echo Machine, Glasgow’s Kapil Seshasayee and the excellently named Tupper Werewolf, and from Edinburgh, Bikini Body, Fistymuffs, Katherine Aly and Miss Leading. Needless to say we were very excited with how this year’s line-up was coming along and have everything crossed that next year we’ll all be able to pick up where we left off!

The Skinny’s Pyramid Compilation

As you’ll likely be aware, The Skinny has just restarted after a five month, COVID-enforced hiatus, and we're back in action thanks to the generous support of our readers who donated in their hundreds to our crowdfunder. Unfortunately the fight isn’t over and we still need your help.

We’re taking advantage of Bandcamp Friday this coming Friday 4 September, and launching a 13-track compilation of some of the bands hand-picked for our stage at Kelburn this summer. When we reached out to the bands below about getting involved they were all so immediately willing and excited to help and have kindly donated tracks to the cause, for which we will be eternally grateful.

Please, if you can, consider supporting us this Friday by treating yourself to what we think is an excellent selection of tracks by Scottish artists, taking in everything from riot grrrl pop-punk, post-punk, synth-pop, indie-pop, emo, electronica and more. We’re recommending you purchase the album for £7, however if you're in a position to pay more then please consider doing so. Anything you can spare would be appreciated with all proceeds going towards helping fund the future of The Skinny.
