Gigs in Edinburgh this week

Eleanor Friedberger @ Sneaky Pete's, 30 Oct
The former Fiery Furnaces frontwoman, Eleanor Friedberger released her fourth solo studio album, Rebound, back in May much to our delight. Catch her tonight in Sneaky Pete's.

Bryde @ Henry's Cellar Bar, 1 Nov
After a successful last visit back in April where she played to a packed out Sneaky Pete's, Sarah Howells, aka Bryde  returns to the capital to kick off November proceedings with an appearance at Henry's Cellar Bar.

Our Ladies of Sorrow @ Banshee's Labyrinth, 2 Nov
The psych prog alter-ego of Edinburgh's – let's face it – usually quite gentle and delicate lo-fi folk outfit eagleowl play their annual Halloween scare fest tonight in the suitably spooky surrounds of Banshee's Labyrinth. Fancy dress is encouraged and support comes from Two Kings.

The Seshen @ The Mash House, 2 Nov
The San Franciso Bay Area-based outfit led by singer-songwriter Lalin St. Juste and bassist/producer Akiyoshi Ehara are out on the road for their Strength in Numbers tour, which stops in at Edinburgh's The Mash House tonight.

Missy Mcanulty @ Stramash, 2 Nov
Edinburgh's Missy Mcanulty is, as Louis Walsh would say, "a ready made pop star" who keeps on impressing us with her radio-ready pop bangers, and tonight she's playing a free show at Stramash. She's set to be on stage at around 8pm so be sure to get down nice and early(ish).

Ear Candy Music Festival @ Traverse Theatre, 2-3 Nov
Ear Candy Festival is a grassroots music festival for Edinburgh’s up-and-coming bands, with an aim to provide an inclusive and diverse event. Skinny fave Lou Mclean is set to play alongside Little Love and the Friendly Vibes, Betty and the Bass, The Julie Ann Band, Romarzs and more.

OK PAL Records Launch Party @ Brig Below, Edinburgh, 3 Nov
Hailey Beavis and Faith Eliott have only gone and flippin' well launched their own record label in the form of OK PAL Records, with which they aim to cover all sorts of visual arts, music, zines, samplers and more. They’re celebrating with a launch party tonight at one of Edinburgh’s newest live spaces on the scene, Leith Walk’s Brig Below, and with performances from Beavis and Eliott themselves alongside Blue Tiger (aka Mario Cruzado from Plastic Animals) and a DJ set from SPILLRISK (Bart from eagleowl), you’re in for a rare treat of a night.

DUDS @ Leith Depot, 3 Nov
Manchester's DUDS are back in Leith this weekend with their premium weird and wonky post-punk, all thanks to promoters' Accidental Gold. Support from Public Service and Death Bed.

Scottish Event of the Week

[The Spook School by Sarah Donley]

Alternative Peers Ball @ Assembly Rooms, Edinburgh, 3 Nov
We’ve only gone and co-curated this year’s Alternative Peers Ball line-up, with help from broadcaster and journalist Vic Galloway, and we have to say we’re pretty happy with it. Kilmarnock-formed trio Fatherson, whose recent album The Sum of All Our Parts we awarded five stars to, will headline the event, which will also see performances from The Xcerts, Bossy Love, The Spook School, Martha Ffion, Kobi Onyame, Babe, Best Girl Athlete and Zoe Graham. Plus there'll be live art from The Too Much Fun Club on the night, art installations from Ursula Cheng and live projections from The Edinburgh Projector Club to bring the whole event to life.

Gigs in Glasgow this week

Verse Metrics + Catalan @ Bloc, 1 Nov
In the summer we premiered Verse Metrics' Interpol-indebted single The Nightmares Leave Us All Inoperational, a song that's stuck with us as the year has stretched on. This is one show not to be missed tonight. Support from Catalan.

Kobi Onyame @ Stereo, 1 Nov
Hip-hop, R'n'B and African highlife artist, and Skinny fave, Kobi Onyame plays a headline show at Glasgow's Stereo tonight before gracing us with his vim and infectious music on Saturday in Edinburgh for the Alt Peers Ball. Tonight's support is Bemz from the Forij collective.

Estrons @ King Tut's, 2 Nov
Fresh from releasing their debut album, You Say I'm Too Much, I Say You're Not Enough, and after support slots with Pussy Riot during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival at Summerhall, Cardiff-based Estrons return to Scotland where they play Glasgow's King Tut's tonight.

George FitzGerald @ SWG3, 2 Nov
Following an excellent outing in Edinburgh just last weekend where he played as part of the massive Nightvision event at the Royal Highland Centre, George FitzGerald tonight graces the west coast with his dance-ready beats.

Her's @ The Great Eastern, 2 Nov
The Liverpool duo made up of Audun Laading and Stephen Fitzpatrick recently released their latest album Welcome to Her's and are finally out on the road to celebrate. Hooray! Catch them tonight at The Great Eastern.

Kacey Musgraves @ SEC Armadillo, 2 Nov
Following on from the release of her fourth studio album Golden Hour back in March, American country star Kacey Musgraves plays in Glasgow tonight as part of her Oh, What a World tour. There are still a few tickets left, so if country's your thing, what you waiting for?

Ladytron @ QMU, Glasgow, 2 Nov
Last month the mighty Ladytron, creators of such bangers as Seventeen, Ace of Hz and Blue Jeans, announced that their eponymous sixth album would be released in February 2019; coming eight years after their last record, we’re pretty ruddy well excited to say the least. Before that though, you can catch them tonight in all their electro-pop wonder at Glasgow’s QMU, and we wouldn’t be surprised if a few new cuts got an early outing. Oh, and Bossy Love are supporting, so make sure you get down nice and early.

Jen Cloher @ CCA, 3 Nov
The prolific Australian singer-songwriter is going it alone this autumn as she brings her solo tour to the UK, stopping in at the recently reopened CCA tonight. Cheers all round.

The Decemberists @ O2 Academy, 5 Nov
The Portland, Oregon band released their eighth studio album, I'll Be Your Girl, back in March and are out on the road for a pretty chunky UK and European tour taking place across the first half of November. Catch them tonight at Glasgow's O2 Academy with Hop Along, whose recent Saddle Creek-released album Bark Your Head Off, Dog we absolutely loved. You know what to do if you're going; get down nice and early.
