Kobi Onyame – Kill the Body (A Response Piece): Video Premiere
Watch Ashanti Harris' response piece to Kobi Onyame's Kill the Body
Since we spoke to Kobi Onyame last August, he’s had quite the 14 months – his 2017 self-released album, GOLD, went on to be shortlisted for the Scottish Album of the Year Award; he was invited to play Lake of Stars in Malawi; he played our stage at Kelburn Garden Party (which was bloody marvellous, if we do say so ourselves) and hosted a collaborative art exhibition – Kobi Onyame vs the Artist – in March at Glasgow’s Many Studios, which saw six artists from different disciplines respond to tracks from GOLD.
Ahead of his upcoming headline slot at Glasgow’s Stereo (1 Nov) and appearance at the Alternative Peers Ball (co-curated by us alongside broadcaster and journalist Vic Galloway on 3 Nov at Edinburgh's Assembly Rooms), The Skinny are delighted to be premiering the response piece to GOLD's closing track, Kill the Body, by Glasgow-based dance and visual artist Ashanti Harris, which will now serve as the single’s official music video.
"Ashanti took the theme of the song and ran with it," Onyame tells us of the video. "The concept of killing the flesh and living less by the flesh and more by the spirit coupled with the idea that we all wear a mask to hide behind is brilliantly highlighted in her response work."
