Saxophone – Evolution and Revolution!

Past event at St Andrew's and St George's West, George St

Mon 10 Aug

Entry from 10

Sue McKenzie and Ingrid Sawers, Scotland’s foremost sax and piano duo, present the historical musical journey of the saxophone. Set against the backdrop of 1920s Paris – Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau and the huge influence of Les Six – we trace the saxophone's course from its bumpy beginnings to its inclusion in orchestral music, through to its impact on jazz and post minimalism. ‘McKenzie’s playing is touching and beautifully crafted. Sawers supports that with sympathetic finesse’ (Scotsman). ‘An exceptional saxophonist’ (Saxophone Journal). ‘Sawers ... like Schumann on acid!’ (Scotsman).
