Katie Lynch and Mark Johnston have been making music together as ST.MARTiiNS since 2016, but the pair go back much further than that. Having met at high school when they were 12, the Dundee pair have pretty much been inseparable ever since and the past few years have really seen them come into their own musically.

With the ability to make writing woozy, laid-back music seem almost effortless, ST.MARTiiNS are back with their impressive third single for 2019, saw the moon. Featuring their signature chilled-out, hazy and hypnotic pop sound, The Skinny are delighted to be premiering the track, which you can listen to in the below SoundCloud player (click here if it’s not displaying correctly).

“Saw the moon was written when we lived in Glasgow; in fact, it was the only thing we wrote during that time,” Lynch tells us. “Moving there was supposed to be an energising, creative experience for us, but unfortunately it became the opposite.

“The imagery in the song reflects how close we felt to our own creativity but summons the feeling that it was just out of reach. Like trying to recall a word or something, but not quite being able to find it.

“It’s quite an angsty song,” Lynch continues, “probably the last song that was derived from our teenage minds. The sound really resonates with that particular time period. And, like all of our work this year, we aim to evoke a feeling with our music that people can attribute their own meaning to, or understand instantly and completely in its own right.”

saw the moon is released on 18 Oct via LAB Records; ST.MARTiiNS play The Bungalow, Paisley, 9 Nov (supporting Vistas); Fat Sam's, Dundee, 22 Nov (supporting Idlewild); McChuills, Glasgow, 4 Dec; YES, Manchester, 5 Dec; Peckham Audio, London, 6 Dec; The Tunnels, Aberdeen, 7 Dec
