Just when we thought it was all over at Song, by Toad, it seems the Edinburgh label has been sitting on one final release. The good news is it’s almost ready to see the light of day.

Over the years, SbT released a number of Split 12” records, each featuring a selection of artists they loved; in the case of Vol. 5, it was a collaboration with Gold Flake Paint that brought music from Beach Moon/Peach Moon, Furnsss, Eskimeaux and Small Wonder together, and Vol. 6 was an Aberdeen by way of Texas affair featuring music from Kitchen Cynics, Micah P. Hinson,Tissø Lake and Willard Grant Conspiracy. The latest is an all-Canadian effort, and it's due for release on 7 June.

The first track to be taken from Split 12” Vol. 7 is Yes/No, from Alberta’s classically trained FOONYAP. The Skinny are delighted to be premiering the track, which is set for release on Friday 19 April. Listen to the single in the below SoundCloud player (click here if it’s not displaying correctly).

FOONYAP says: "In my early 30s I took responsibility for my sexual satisfaction and opened up my long-term relationship. Yes/No explores my guilt and desire from plunges into my animal self: my personal liberation from religious and conservative taboos. It expresses the uncertainty of feminine eroticism, a dominant theme in my upcoming artistry.

"For most of my life, I was split in two,” FOONYAP continues. “There was my thinking mind and then there was my body, this annoying container for my mind. When I had an eating disorder, I crammed it into a shape pleasing to men's eyes. When I hunted success, I ignored its pleas for pleasure and rest. During a traumatic change, I became aware of an excess of aggression and anger, a hot throb, the voice of my body seeking release.

“Influenced by thinkers such as Anaïs Nin and Susie Bright, I had uncomfortable conversations to open my long-term relationship; I wanted to explore as a united being. For some time, I experienced internal tension – the Yes/No. I felt guilty for feeling good but I could no longer ignore what I wanted. The argument spun incessantly and eventually I learned to let it cycle, while enjoying a symphony of escapades. Reunion."

Song, by Toad label boss Matthew Young says: “It looks now like this might well be the last ever release on the label and if so it is a fitting one, and a beautiful album. I really have nothing left to say, beyond a massive, sincere and slightly tearful thank you to everyone who has ever been a part of this. It has meant the world to me. I’m sure I’ll see you at a gig somewhere soon enough.”

Yes/No is released on 19 Apr; Split 12" Vol. 7 is released on 7 Jun via Song, by Toad and is available to pre-order via Bandcamp:
