Beerjacket – Nervous (Track Premiere)

It’s been almost five years since Peter Kelly, aka Beerjacket, released Darling Darkness, but he’s back and raring to go with its follow-up, Silver Cords, set for release on 23 Nov via independent label Scottish Fiction.

Silver Cords is different to previous Beerjacket releases, however, as each of its 12 songs come with an accompanying short story to be enjoyed alongside the music. "At some point in the writing of Silver Cords," says Kelly, "I decided the record would live in a book and that each song would be accompanied by a short story inspired by its lyrics." 

The Skinny are delighted to be premiering the second single to be taken from the album, Nervous, a delicately guitar-picked four minutes featuring Kelly’s signature warm vocals. You can listen to Nervous in the SoundCloud player below (click here if it's not displaying correctly).

"This is a song of the sea," Kelly tells us of the single. "It can sometimes feel as if you’re drifting through life, not directionless but being directed by some other force outside of your own control. The fear that powerlessness can bring is counterbalanced by the freedom of accepting you are just a passenger.

"I have a strange relationship with dreams," Kelly continues. "For me, there is only a very thin membrane between reality and the world of dreams. I often feel I live in the parasomniac space between sleeplessness and hypnogogia, the exploding head place where your senses shake themselves into waking with a jolt like a starting pistol."
