Experimentalista!

The idea for Experimentalista! came about 2 years ago as a combination of both of us wanting to do something different and more challenging with our respective art forms. Constantly presented with an almost ritualistic formula for cabaret and songwriting we have used our classical backgrounds to develop a new genre blending the two.

The Fringe seemed like the perfect place to try this out and the experience has been a proper apprenticeship for us. It has been fantastic seeing just what works and what does not; changing the set list and choreography to fit the (very) small space we have been performing in, and working to tight running times.

We use a lot of gadgetry onstage for the music - looping instruments and  wireless mics for interactive performances. This has the potential to go horribly wrong. Saying that, we have probably had the most fun performing when it has gone wrong, and we have had to improvise the entire set, with Gilda dancing to songs she had never heard before. This is definitely a collaboration that we are going to continue, though we will find a bigger stage for it next time and get some sleep.
