The actor and rapper is looking for other people named Will Smith for a secret project that sounds an awful lot like one Dave Gorman embarked on years ago

Is your name Will Smith? If so, it’s time to step up, because the most famous person in the world with your name needs your help. On Twitter, the actor sent out a video calling for his namesakes to come forward to help him with the promotion of his latest film Bright, which will be released via Netflix on 22 December.

“It's too much stuff,” Smith says on the video, referring to the promotion of Bright. “It's interviews. It's long days. So, I came up with an idea… I can't do it all myself. I need y'all to help me out. All Will Smiths, please stand up!”

Will Smiths from all around the globe – as well as some William Smiths, a Bill Smith, a Guillermo Smith and the daughter of a Wilhelmina Smith – have begun replying to the video. @williamsmith1951 asked, “Are we building a Will Smith army?” The tantalising reply was, “Maybe. DM me to find out.”

It’s all sounding very Dave Gorman, who embarked on a similar hunt for his namesakes in his Edinburgh Fringe show and subsequent book Are You Dave Gorman? Is Will Smith initiating some comedy routine based around his name, or simply trying to get strangers to do his press tour for him? We’ll let you know once we hear more.
