Blooms – Stay Fresh Session

Watch Manchester-based dream-pop trio Blooms in session at Granada Studios as part of our Stay Fresh series

Video by The Skinny | 09 May 2017

Originally from Telford, Blooms strike a perfect balance between chaos and control, art-rock dripping with melody. Think Brighten the Corners-era Pavement with an added wave of blissed-out surf-pop, and maybe a dash of Manchester shoegaze taken from their adoptive home.

In this new video, shot at the Low Four music space in Granada Studios, frontman Matt and brothers Mark and Tim discuss their hometown as a catalyst for their music – "Telford's sort of not surrounded by anything nice [...] so a lot of Telford people seem to have their only escape as music writing" – along with their love for 90s American lo-fi bands like Pavement and Weezer. Watch the session in the player above, where the trio play three tracks.

Blooms support California-based Australian dream-pop artist Hazel English at The Castle Hotel on 22 May, before sharing a Scruff of the Neck Records triple bill with Mouses and Fears Chella on 17 June, also at The Castle.

Track list: Porcelain + chat (0:32), Alaska (5:02), Waves (8:44)
