Amon Amarth's 10-minute sword-and-sorcery epic for 'Father of the Wolf'

Sweden's Amon Amarth have unveiled a new video this week - and it's a ten-minute fantasy epic that gives Game of Thrones a run for its money. Featuring an ancient and cursed tome (looking not unlike a first edition of the Necronomicon), an undead army, a mysterious mage, and more Norse mythology than you can shake a rune-carved stick at, it's a convincing stab at the epic fantasy genre, and works as a showcase for the band's melodic, soaring brand of metal.

The video climaxes in an all-out battle between two armies, one on the side of Loki, and one on the side of Thor. As spear and hammer clash, the epic riffage of Father of the Wolf kicks in. The track is taken from the band's last album, Deceiver of the Gods. The video was directed by Ramon Boutviseth. Amon Amarth will play metal festival Bloodstock (7-10 Aug) at Catton Hall, Derbyshire.
