What's On Scotland 31 Aug-7 Sep: Art Walk Porty

What with all the torn up posters, collapsed circus tents and blue tourists, Edinburgh's now knee-deep in its post-festival hangover. Continue the fun at Art Walk Porty, Electric Fields and Scalarama Scotland...

Fringe has finished, and though those empty pavements feel fucking fantastic, it's difficult to come to terms with the fact the fun's over. If you're not ready for normality this weekend, drink the last dregs of summer at Art Walk Porty.

The beach-based art fest returns during the first third this month, and this year's programme revolves around the theme of 'Edgelands'. Along with the main exhibitions there'll be shops, talks, informative strolls and open houses / gardens. Go blow the cobwebs off – the fun's not over yet.1-10 Sep, various venues in Portobello, Edinburgh, see here for more information.

Electric Fields
Drumlanrig Castle, Dumfries & Galloway. 1-2 Sep, 1pm
Fringe season left you absolutely exasperated with the city? US TOO. That's why we're running away, straight into the lush embrace of Dumfries & Galloway for boutique music festival Electric Fields. Big Dizzee Rascal's headlining with Frightened Rabbit, but the whole line-up is bejewelled with up-and-coming stunners (Sacred Paws, The Vegan Leather, Future Get Down, Kate Tempest, Anna Meredith, Aldous Harding – we could go on). Plus gorgeous poetry, blazing DJs and proper good chow.

BooHooHoo
Nice 'n' Sleazy, Glasgow. 1 Sep, 7.30pm
Glasgow indie-pop trio BooHooHoo are bags of fun, so a show in the intimate confines of Sleazy's comes highly recommended. Support comes from Aberdeen indie outfit The Little Kicks.

Impossible Island #01 (Werkha + Babe + MR TC)
Stereo, Glasgow. 1 Sep, 10pm
Is This All There Is? are aiming to, in their words, "explore the border between live music and dance music" with new night Impossible Island, and they've taken a pretty good swing at it for their debut. Live sets from genre-hopping Mancunian producer Werkha, electro-pop/R'n'B hybrid Babe and Optimo Music signee Mr TC all await for an all-night party at Stereo. Image: Alexander Bell

Haptic (Lord of the Isles)
Mash House, Edinburgh. 1 Sep, 11pm
Neil McDonald, aka Lord of the Isles, brings a combination of a DJ set and an hour-long live set of his own compositions to The Mash House tonight.

NT Live: Yerma
GFT, Glasgow. 31 Aug, 6.45pm
If you're feeling the post-festival blues, get another hit over at Glasgow Film Theatre with a NT screening of Federico García Lorca's heart-rending Yerma. The production, updated cleverly by Simon Stone has won critical acclaim, along with Billie Piper's performance as the heroine of the piece. We're pretty excited about this chance to see it broadcast to Glasgow Film Theatre in all its tragic glory.

Neon Waltz
Sneaky Pete's, Edinburgh. 6 Sep, 7pm
This six-piece band hail from (or near enough to) John O'Groats. They've been plugging away for yonks and are finally enjoying some deserved attention for their debut LP Strange Hymns, released in August via Ignition. With Alex Turner-esque vocals, throwback 60s riffs and psychedelic vibes, it's hooky as fuck and your new favourite Saturday afternoon music.
