Beloved indie cinema Filmhouse reopens in Edinburgh this week, with a great programme of opening films. Elsewhere, Exit have their closing weekend and Lucy Dacus plays Edinburgh
We (good cinema in Edinburgh) are so back. Beloved institution Filmhouse returns after almost three years of closure and shuttered doors this Friday 27 June, with brand new screens, a revamped bar, and a solid programme of rep movies and old releases in the first week.
There's some really special stuff announced so far: from recent The Skinny faves the gorgeous La Chimera and Wim Wenders’ tender and searching Perfect Days to a 70mm print of The Brutalist and a screening of 1926 paper cut animation The Adventures of Prince Achmed accompanied by a live score. EXIT Summer Closing Weekend

Lucy Dacus

Glasgow Zine Fest

Community takes centre stage at Glasgow Zine Fest, looking at the collective and radical potential of DIY publishing. Edinburgh club night Slàinte Mhath is almost two years old and they're throwing an early birthday party to celebrate, with a lineup of old and new DJ friends, including Al Gu, samwooddoowmas, miira, and Saint Sunday (pictured) playing everything from techno to jungle.

Exploring the history of Palestinian dress and the art of tatreez hand embroidery, this exhibition was previously at Hayy Jameel in Jeddah earlier this year and is now in Dundee to mark 45 years of the city’s twinship with Nablus in Palestine.

There’s some killer names on the Kelburn Garden Party lineup this year, with live sets from the likes of She Drew the Gun and The Allergies, and DJ sets from Auntie Flow and Sofia Kourtesis and stages by baile/baile, EHFM and Paradise Palms.

Indie pop outfit Japanese Breakfast released their fourth album earlier this year, the perfectly titled For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women), featuring a return to their more gothic tones following the bubbly tones of the critically acclaimed Jubilee.
