Great news, film fans: this coming week sees the return of Glasgow Film Festival and boy, is this one you don't want to miss. Running 2-13 March at the festival's home base of Glasgow Film Theatre, this year's edition is one of their strongest programmes in years, with a wealth of screenings, premieres and industry talks showcasing the best of international cinema.

Where to start with such a remarkable programme? How about in the depths of America's porn industry with the darkly funny Red Rocket, or by the banks of the Scottish loch with The Hermit of Treig? We also loved Benediction, the devastating Terrence Davies biopic of war poet Siegfried Sassoon, as well as the absolutely essential Golden Lion-winning Happening, about a teenage girl seeking an illegal abortion in 1960s France. Also unmissable are decadent Balzac adaptation Lost Illusions, tender immigration story Farewell Amor, subversive romantic comedy The Worst Person in the World, and the Abbas Kiarostami-inspired Asteroid.

Tickets for individual films are available to buy from Glasgow Film Theatre's website, with a selection of the programme streaming online. For even more recommendations, check out the latest episode of The Skinny's film podcast The Cineskinny where we shout about all our favourites from the programme. Happy cinema-ing!
