You may have noticed we've been talking about Dundee a lot more recently; well, the reason for that is there are a lot of exciting things happening there at the moment, what with the V&A opening last weekend and now with Dundee's very first Pride celebrations taking place this weekend.

The event kicks off with the Pride Parade at City Square from 12pm, marching around Murraygate, Panmure Street, Albert Square and Reform Street before returning back to the City Square ready for the afternoon's entertainment, co-hosted by local radio station Tay FM and beloved Dundee drag queen Buschie Fandango. There will also be a selection of stalls to shop around, from clothing by the event's official Pride merchandisers Abandon Ship and KO Vintage Clothing to food from Fish & Frites and Dundee fave Clark's Bakery, as well as a Youth Zone with queer literature, gaming, an open mic and a chill zone.

Continue the party into the wee hours at the official after party taking place at the DUSA students union, with all proceeds from ticket sales going towards funding for Dundee Pride 2019.

La Luz
Mono, Glasgow. 25 Sep, 7.30pm
Luscious vocal harmonies and bouncy surf-rock melodies with a psychedelic twang make up the essence of LA quartet La Luz’s distinguishable sound. The group released their third album Floating Features back in May, and now they’re taking it out on tour. We guarantee you’ll want to be in the band by the end of the show. Image: Chona Kasinger

Mitski
St Luke’s, Glasgow. 20 Sep, 7pm
Mitski’s latest album, Be the Cowboy is an absolute triumph; from the eerie opening of Geyser to the country-tinged Lonesome Love via the disco-infused Why Didn't You Stop Me? and the funk-riddled Nobody, it’s a total stunner and we guarantee this show will be too. Bring your tissues and your dancing shoes; trust us, you’ll need both! Image: Sarah Donley

Skye Live
Portree, Isle of Skye. 21-23 Sep, 4pm
If being knee-deep in mud and nearly getting blown away in your tent is exactly how you like to spend your free time, then take a trip out of the city to Skye Live this weekend. Edinburgh DJ Eclair Fifi presents a collection of DJs tomorrow night, including Big Miz, a live set from Afrodeutsche and Ribeka (pictured), alongside Dan Shake, Or:la and Denis Sulta.

FLY Open Air Festival
Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh. 22-23 Sep, 12pm
Or stay a little closer to home, as FLY's annual open air party at the foot of Edinburgh Castle returns this year as a weekend-long event. With the line-up curated by FLY residents Theo Kottis and Jasper James, Saturday sees Kottis play alongside the likes of Kerri Chandler and Henrik Schwarz, while James is joined by Palms Trax, Peggy Gou (pictured) and more on Sunday.

Lupe Pintos’ Chili Cook-Off
Various venues, Edinburgh. 22 Sep, 12pm
Pay some money and eat some food; it’s a pretty basic concept. If you’re a fan of all things hot and spicy food-wise then you can do exactly those two things at Lupe Pintos’ Chili Cook-Off 2018. Ten venues will be challenged to make the best chili they can, and you get to judge which is best. Eating food and judging things? Pretty much the absolute dream. Image: Nick Cocozza

Dr John Cooper Clarke
The Gardyne Theatre, Dundee. 26 Sep, 7.30pm
Anyone who writes a poem called Twat is pretty cool in our books and Dr John Cooper Clarke did just that back in the 70s, when he rose to fame and was heralded a “punk poet.” His lengthy, influential career, in the worlds of poetry and music, earned him an honorary doctorate from the University of Salford in 2013 (hence the Dr part) and he's about as prolific as they come.

John Talabot
Sub Club, Glasgow. 23 Sep, 11pm
Who says you can’t party on a Sunday night? Well, standard working hours that’s who. But we’re rowdy, rebellious rule-breakers here at The Skinny and we know you are too. Hit up Subbie for a Sunday sesh with Spaniard John Talabot, and rue the day you thought it would be fine not to take the Monday off. Full face bin bag-esque balaclavas optional.

Headset 100: Danielle B2B Daisy Moon
The Bongo Club, Edinburgh. 21 Sep, 11pm
Having recently been included in Red Bull's best parties and clubs pioneering techno in the UK list, selected by frequent guest Hodge, Headset celebrate their 100th party tomorrow night. Helping them mark the occasion are a pair of Bristolians in NTS Radio/Phonica Records' Danielle (pictured) and Housework/Brstl's Daisy Moon, who will go B2B on the night, with Skillis on support.
