Each week The Skinny team hand pick a selection of events from the Scottish cultural calendar to provide you with this guide to the most exciting goings on in the week ahead. From gigs, plays and exhibitions to spoken word and pop up cake shops, we give you the insider's guide to things to do in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee every Thursday morning.

1. Edinburgh International Film Festival
Until 26 Jun, various venues, dates and times in Edinburgh

It's that time again. The 70th annual EIFF continues this week, filling Edina’s filmic venues with a handsome programme book-ended by Scottish talent. Ease your way in with Chris Foggin's coming-of-age visual feast Kids in Love (pictured), dip a toe in the festival's fascinating Shorts strand, catch treats from the first generation of comic strip adaptations or widen your perspective with beguiling new works from across the globe. And that's just skimming the surface – read more here.

2. GSA Degree Show
Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow. 18-25 June, times vary

The annual GSA degree show swells into action between 18-25 June, so take your chance to see the blossoming artists exhibit the product of their toils while you can. The school's MFA degree show also hits The Glue Factory between 16-26 Jun. Image courtesy of Clara Hastrup

3. LeithLate
Leith Walk, Edinburgh. 23-26 Jun, times vary

LeithLate returns next Thursday with a (mostly) free programme of art openings, spoken word, screenings and shindigs, kicking off with its famous artcrawl. Embark on the art-gandering marathon with over 50 artists showcasing their work in around 20 venues, before heading over to the afterparty at The Hibernian Supporter’s Club where Nice Church, DTHPDL, Carbs and She-Bang Rave Unit will be on hand to help you celebrate what a lovely time you've had. 4. Rally & Broad's Final Shows
Bongo, Edinburgh. 17 Jun, 7pm
Stereo, Glasgow. 19 Jun, 2.30pm

After four tremendous years spent stirring hearts and tickling funny bones, spoken word duo and cabaret organisers Rally & Broad have announced their final shows entitled Once More, With Feeling. You'll have to beg / borrow / bribe your way into the sold out Edinburgh show, but we have word you can still nab tickets to their Glasgow date in Stereo. Image: Chris Scott

5. West End Festival All Dayer
Òran Mór, Glasgow. 19 Jun, 3pm

Òran Mór's on winning streak of top notch music line-ups this month as part of WEF, and this week is no different with their All Dayer, featuring 14 tasty Scottish acts over three stages. Returning for a fifth year, they're hosting the likes of Prides (pictured), Errors, Withered Hand, De Rosa, Crash Club, Catholic Action and mountains more besides. It'll be a belter. 6. The Pitt Kick-off
125 Pitt Street, Edinburgh. 18 Jun, 12pm

If it feels like you're starting to see more and more of The Pitt, you're on to something. Turns out, the Leith foodie market is launching a series of seven consecutive weekly Pitts this weekend, kicking off with Rost Eats, Barnacles & Bones, Blue Banana Food and Bruadair among others. There'll be coffee on offer from The Caffeine Fix, and something a little stronger from Barney's Beer, Smith & Gertrude and Cocktails & Drams. Entry's a quid and dog attendance is actually encouraged, allowing you to top up on furry-friend time for the week, too. We could get used to this...

7. World Music Day: Paragon Music Jamathon

CCA, Glasgow. 21 Jun, 7.30pm

Happy World Music Day! All aboard the celebratory bandwagon, there’s tonnes to do. Head to CCA for a Jamathon with Paragon followed by an inclusive performance of music, dance and theatre. Alternatively, get crooned at by Sun Kil Moon in the glorious setting of Glasgow’s St Luke’s. Or, if you're based in Edinburgh, dose up on The Billy Walton Band at Edinburgh Blues Club.

8. Greater Grassmarket's Circus Weekend
Grassmarket, Edinburgh. 18 & 19 June, 11am

Acrobatic circus show Arr We There Yet backflips into Edinburgh's Grassmarket this weekend, bringing dynamic merry-making and dangerous stunts to an al fresco setting for your delectation. There'll also be circus workshops and demos in the arts of hand balancing, trapeze, tight wire and 'toothbrush twiddling'(?). It'll be so much fun you might even forget you're standing on the exact spot in which Edinburgh's public executions historically took place! What larks.

9. North Hop Glasgow
SWG3, Glasgow. 18 Jun, 12pm

We really, really hope you’re not trying to embark on some sort of antibooze detox this month – It’s just not happening (sorry). Here’s yet another in a long string of Scotland's liquor-specific events; North Hop Glasgow. Head down for the holy summer triad of tunes, food and booze, with brewers, market vendors, chefs and cocktail makers all making the trip over to SWG3 for your consumption.

10. Braids
The Hug and Pint, Glasgow. 17 June, 7.30pm

Shoegazey indie-rock trio from Montreal, Braids return to Glasgow this month, bringing the dreamy fruits of 2015 records from Deep In The Iris and Companion to The Hug and Pint. There'll be support in the form of squidgy electronica from the fascinating Wuh Oh along with an amply atmospheric set from P H O E N E. Image: Victoria Masters
