In a move that will no doubt spark controversy, Will Smith has ploughed $1 million of his own money into a private school that bases part of it's teaching methods on Scientology.

'Study Technology' is an educational method developed by Scientology founder and sci-fi novelist L Ron Hubbard and the New Village Academy of Calabasas in California is known to have adopted the technique as it attempts to introduce contemporary methodologies to the curriculum.

The news comes just weeks after the Fresh Prince denied he was a Scientologist saying, “you don't have to be Jewish to be a friend of Steven Spielberg. You don't have to be a Muslim to be a friend of Mohammed Ali.”

Smith's case won't be helped by the fact that his own wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, is a devout follower of Hubbard's cult, nor the fact that six of the teachers at Calabasas are known disciples.

The plot thickens, wonder what Jazzy Jeff would make of it all?
