Urban Reflections: Live Events @ Stills

Article by Dave Hynes | 21 Nov 2008

Urban Reflections is a hefty new exhibition at the Stills Gallery, which offers “five different artistic positions” on the “urban experience”. Love them or hate them, large cities are a focus of human endeavour and power; how we experience them and interact with them has long been an area of fascination for the arts, and Stills are putting on a series of live free events to accompany the exhibition.

The opening itself is free to the public, and will no doubt be a good opportunity to meet some of the artists and key players involved; there’s even an after party at Wasabi Disco if you’ve sampled a bit too much of the free booze. Sabine Hornig – a Berlin based artist taking part in the exhibition - is giving a talk on her practice the following day, with coffees and cake (!) on offer. And two readings by Rhona Warwick – especially the excerpt from Alistair Gray’s landmark novel Lanark - should be quite interesting against the backdrop of metropolis-inspired creations.
