Skinny Showcase Open To Proposals

Feature by Rosamund West | 03 Feb 2011

The Skinny Showcase offers a platform for emergent artists and designers in the form of a double page spread in the magazine and an online gallery. Each month we select an individual or collective to display in our paper gallery, giving them the opportunity to show off their portfolio of images, promote their own work or curate a group exhibition in print form.

With a circulation of over 34,000 per issue, and distribution in over 700 venues in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee, and online promotion, each selected artist is guaranteed a high level of exposure to new audiences. In the 4 years that the section has been running we’ve featured emerging artists including Jock Mooney, Good Wives and Warriors, Rachel MacLean, Dan Miller, Jessica Harrison, Matthew Swan and many more, and hosted curations by Jamie Kenyon (SWG3, CCA) and Central Station. We’ve also run real-life exhibitions by selected artists in venues like the Bongo Club and the Roxy Art House, and created the Skinny Showcase Award in collaboration with RSA New Contemporaries to offer recently graduated artists support and exhibiting opportunities in the years after college.

We’re currently looking for new pitches from artists, designers, emerging curators who’d like their work to be featured, who have images that they’d like to share or a vision for an exhibition that they’d like to present in a non-traditional format. If you’d like to be involved, email showcase@theskinny.co.uk with a proposal. Please include images and a written outline of what you’d like to do. The first deadline for proposals is Friday 11 February.

Deadlines: Fri 11 Feb, Fri 11 Mar
