Futurama set to be ressurected by Comedy Central

Comedy Central, home to some of the best American comedy series, has confirmed that it will be bringing the animated comedy Futurama back for another 26 episodes.

The show was cancelled due to low ratings over six years ago, after a 72-episode run on the American Fox network in 2003. Comedy Central has cited excellent DVD sales and good response to repeats which have been shown on the station as the key reasons for resuming production on the show.

The show is expected to resume in 2010.

The popular sci-fi cartoon—developed by David X. Cohen and Simpsons creator Matt Groening—is set in the city of "New New York," in the 31st century. The decision to "un-cancel" the show echoes that previously taken by Fox to resume production of another hit animated show, Family Guy.
