Bought the album, got the t-shirt: Mos Def releases latest album on, err, t-shirt

Now that digital music has freed artists from the shackles of the physical form, artists can package their music however they like. In celebration, rapper and sometime actor, Mos Def, is releasing his latest album, The Ecstatic, on a t-shirt. He’s not the first to get shirty; last year, neon quirkpopsters Of Montreal released Skeletal Lamping in the form of a CD, vinyl LP, tote bag, t-shirt, badge set, paper lantern and wall decal set. Each set included the download of the album itself, and a giant poster of a psychedelic horse. In a similar fashion, Mos Def has turned to clothing to publicise his new record. But if you're expecting a garment that plays hip-hop then you'll be disappointed. The rapper’s t-shirt has The Ecstatic's cover art on the front, the tracklisting on the back, and a code for a downloadable version of the album on a tag. The idea began with a $60 (£36) compilation mix t-shirt by LnA clothing, Downtown Music and Invisble DJ, who are now stitching up The Ecstatic. The music tee will be available on 7 July for $40 (£25).
