Taylor Mac

It's safe to say Taylor Mac is out to make a statement. And the technicolour, sequin-swathed, ukulele playing drag queen certainly doesn't fail to make an unique impact.
Though for all the glitter, sparkles and costume changes on his wardrobe of a stage, it is the astute ukulele backed sociopolitcal songs rather than his appearance that are really out to dazzle.
Opening with the darkly funny 'If you see something, say something' ditty about unattended baggage on the subway, it is undeniably razor sharply topical in the days wake of the foiled terrorist plot that has reignited paranoia at British airports.
Although other tunes about US political figures get somewhat lost in translation somewhere over the Atlantic from his native downtown New York and the intermittant sketches have more of a grubby gleam than a sparkle, Mac's ability to seamlessly switch from camp comedy to poignantly personal in 'But I loved him' as adaptly as he changes dresses that proves his award winning status across the pond.
