La Cheetah Burlesque August Show

Article by Clare Sinclair | 25 Aug 2010

With the Edinburgh Fringe Festival taking centre stage for the international theatre, cabaret and burlesque scenes, it’s always nice to see events continue to thrive west of the coast, and Dolly Tartan’s ongoing La Cheetah! has continued to rise in infamy and popularity as one of the must see burlesque events on the calendar.

Dolly presents with her inimitable cheeky style, never hiding her enthusiasm for the monthly show held downstairs at Max’s on Queen Street, a location which suits the sultry style of the performances put on there.

Opening, and punctuating the evening’s entertainment through the night, is the delightful Petit Chou Chou, with her soulful voice setting the tone before making way for the picture perfect Miss Hell's Belle and Cat Aclysmic showing the mix of burlesque veterans and newbies alike how it’s done by two of the masters of Scottish cabaret. However, stealing the show, along with hearts and laughs, is Madame Myfanwy, teaching the audience, in the way only she can, the tips and tricks of a true burlesque beauty. Looking round at the audience of women and men, grinding along in their own mini routine, it becomes clear that the revival of cabaret is not a flash in the pan as some had predicted, but a form of dance and culture which is rising from the underground at a ferocious pace – and it’s thanks to nights such as La Cheetah! that we can enjoy it all the more regularly.
