Aberdeen’s Festival of Contemporary Dance arrives to keep our wintry bodies fired up

We might as well admit that’s the end of summer so it’s really just a case of keeping your senses alert as autumnal temperatures kick in. Fitting then that danceLive! – the third annual Aberdeen Festival of Contemporary Dance – not only brings a month's programme of events, around several city venues, but there’s also participation with workshops for all ages - so never a better time to have the physique and mind energised.

In partnership with north-east Scotland’s SOUND festival, Aberdeen Performing Arts and Peacock Visual Arts, the line-up boasts flute trios and string quartets in tandem with modern dance interpretations, as well as the odd tango class. Ride the Beast sizes up the Scottish Ballet to the sound of rock entities Radiohead while Bauhaus experiments in cellular presentation, and the mighty Busby Berkeley's Hollywood spectaculars are showcased in film at the Belmont Picturehouse. Fast and Dirty – an inclusive four-day creative lab – pits theatre professionals (composers, choreographers, visual artists and writers) and dance graduates through the production processes culminating in two performances later in the schedule.

From 1930s sophistication to elaborate rock ’n’ roll themes the festival's versatility brings much to warm to over the month of October.
