| 15 Jun 2006
What: Charity and Theatre Company
When: Since 1975
Where: Based in Edinburgh
Why: Theatre is therapy, and in 2000 Theatre Workshop was the first professional company in Europe to include professional disabled actors in their main production season. The result is theatre that is well crafted, emotional, accessible and desperately honest. Their performances are not for commercial exchange, but instead aim to empower individuals. This is community theatre at its very best.
Essentials: 'The Threepenny Opera', cast for the first time using professional disabled actors, which played to sell-out audiences in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. 'Oh What a Lovely War' - a theatrical chronicle of the First World War, told as a lively cabaret with emotive period songs.
Next up: 'Babylon Burning', an adaptation of 2002's 'Oh What a Lovely War' that features almost 100 participants. Opens June 8.
