Victoria Beckham reportedly washes her face with bird poo.

A Japanese beauty company claims the singer-turned-fashion-designer and her husband David are fans of a cleanser made from powdered Nightingale droppings.

Nightingale faeces have been used by Japanese women for centuries. It was initially used as a fabric stain remover, but became a beauty essential when Geishas started applying the powdered excrement to their faces to achieve a white, blemish-free complexion. The practice was quickly adopted by noblewomen across the country and is still used in Japan today.

The cleanser – named Japanese Nightingale Droppings – is made by drying poo in the sun for two weeks. The faeces are then sterilised using ultraviolet light and slowly ground into a fine powder.

A small amount of the dust is then mixed with water and applied to the face. After a few minutes, the paste is washed off to reveal glowing skin.

Beauty website body4real.co.uk is now selling the product worldwide.

They describe it as an “all natural product which is perfectly safe and easy to use on both oily and dry skin that keeps moisture in, but cleanses well at the same time”.
