Kellan Lutz wears wigs so he can go out in public unrecognised.

The actor, who shot to fame in vampire film franchise Twilight, decided to don fake hair so he could continue watching American football matches without attracting attention to himself.

"I used to love going to my local high school football games near my house. And I can't really go there anymore, without being wise - I do have a few wigs, actually," he revealed.

Kellan added he didn't shave and wore scruffy clothes so he could go to a comic book convention in San Diego this year. However, his cunning disguise failed to stop him getting noticed at the world-famous event.

"Sometimes I grow my facial hair out. I wanted to walk around Comic-Con this year, so I dressed kinda homeless," the 24-year-old told Nylon magazine. "But someone recognised me and posted it online. I was like, 'Thanks. Now I can't wear that again.'"

Kellan's revelations come after fellow Twilight star Taylor Lautner revealed yesterday he "hates wearing wigs".

The 17-year-old actor donned a hairpiece to play werewolf Jacob Black in the vampire film franchise. In the latest instalment New Moon his character cuts his hair, which was a relief for Taylor.

He said: "I still have the wig for the first half of New Moon, then Jacob cuts his long hair off when he becomes the werewolf which was relief to me. The long hair would get in my mouth when I was trying to deliver my lines. Didn't taste too good."
