Celine Dion has has revealed the loss of her unborn baby

The 41-year-old singer announced she was expecting her second child with husband Rene Angelil in August, with the baby conceived via in vitro fertilisation (IVF). Rene has now confirmed she is no longer pregnant, adding she underwent another round of treatment in October which was unsuccessful.

Rene told Canada's Journal de Montreal newspaper: "We're living the reality of the majority of couples who face these procreation techniques. The road can be long and difficult. It doesn't always work."

The pair discovered Celine was no longer pregnant 10 days after announcing she was expecting, but decided not to go public with the news to give themselves time to deal with it.

He explained: "Last August, our doctor thought the pregnancy was well underway. That wasn't the case. We found out about 10 days later. We were definitely in shock."

Rene, 67, confirmed the couple are preparing for a third round of IVF. They already have eight-year-old son Rene-Charles together, who was also born using the process after six years of trying. He added the pair refuse to be disheartened as they still feel so lucky to be parents.

He said: "You know Celine - she doesn't give up. And I admire all those women who go through this difficult process. She's undergone numerous examinations, hormone injections and blood tests. We have to go to New York often. Celine and I aren't discouraged since we already have an extraordinary son, Rene-Charles. It's not as though we don't have any children. So we have faith in life and in our lucky star."
