Alberta Ferretti has warned against wearing clothes just because they are in style.

The legendary designer insists there is no point wearing something just because it is fashionable, as it will just make you look uncomfortable.

“The thing I most dislike is when people wear a dress that has nothing to do with your personality,” she said. “Wearing a costume is always a fashion mistake.”

Alberta added she only ever creates clothes she would want to wear, insisting it is important her ranges make women feel good about themselves.

She said: “It is an automatic process. I put myself in the shoes of the woman who will wear the dress or perfume and think about how she wants to feel: beautiful, attractive and intelligent.”

Alberta has several failsafe wardrobe items, explaining she always has a wearable chiffon shirt as it can dress up any outfit.

She told Britain’s The Times newspaper: “An embroidered silk dress under a heavy coat is my fallback outfit. It’s the best way to face the winter season with elegance.”
