Wake The President - Mail, Alice / Sorrows For Clot

Any ditty that tackles paedophilia, Dear Deirdre and 24 in the same breath, is bound to spark some intrigue.

Single title: Mail, Alice / Sorrows For Clot
Artist: Wake The President
Label: Say Dirty
Literate and articulate, Wake the President continue to embrace their Glaswegian roots and wear their influences on their sleeves. Comparisons to Belle and Sebastian may still prove difficult to shake but, as has been said within these pages before, there's enough quality here to suggest Wake The President are ready to continue the fine tradition for melodic, observationally witty tunes rather than live in its shadows. Mail Alice is the best of the brace: any ditty that tackles paedophilia, Dear Deirdre and 24 in the same breath, is bound trigger a spin or two - and in this case, many more. [Finbarr Bermingham]
